“Fill Me In On Fillers” With Expert Dr. Randolph Waldman

This Week’s Question:
Many of my friends are talking about the injections they’ve received to look younger. I’m new at this and don’t have too much money to spend. Should I ask for a filler or a toxin or both and are they safe?
Expert’s Response:
Excellent question and something we are often asked by some of our new patients. Actually Neurotoxins such as Botox and Dysport temporarily disrupt some of the small nerve endings that trigger facial muscle movement. Specifically the muscles that create the vertical lines between the eyebrows , the muscles of that give us the horizontal lines across our forehead, and the muscle that gives us the “Cro’s feet” lines are best treated with one of the neurotoxins. On the other hand the lines and wrinkles involving our lower face and especially the area around the mouth are best “filled out and plumped up” with one the hyaluronic substances such as Perlane or Juvederm. The great thing about these fillers is that they can be easily reversed by the injection of another medication. We also can improve the shape and the volume of the lips with these fillers which is extremely popular in our practice. As far as safety I would say that both are very safe and complications almost unheard of! In our practice patients often have a filler and a neurotoxin injected at the same visit which results in a cost savings!

Strawberries Renew Complexion

Strawberries are full of antioxidants that are great for the skin, especially ones face. The fruit’s tiny seeds also act as a natural, gentle exfoliant. For a clearer complexion, slice off the top of a strawberry and rub it on a clean face. Wait 10 minutes or so and then rinse off. This is a cheap and simple way to renew your complexion when you don’t have time to hit the salon for a facial!

Hollywood Perfect White Smile Tips

Want to get a bright white smile like some of Hollywood’s Best Smiling stars such as Eva Mendes, Anne Hathaway, Brad Pitt and Will Smith. Look no further than these Hollywood Perfect White Smile Tips for a whiter and brighter toothy grin.
We are all born with naturally white smiles, unfortunately over time these white smiles fade mainly due to the foods we eat, prescription medication, and genetics. Increase your chances of maintaining a bright white smile by avoiding these damaging foods and drinks:
- Soy Sauce
- Berries
- Curry
- Coffee
- Red Wine
- Tea
- Soft-drinks
Try drinking beverages through a straw to reduce the amount of time they are in contact with your teeth.
Tobacco is also one of the biggest culprits in ruining white smiles as it stains teeth a yellow color.
To improve and brighten your white smile try using a whitening toothpaste, at home bleaching kit, or in office dentist whitening treatment. For maximum results use a combination of any or all of these whitening treatments. Here are some of the favorites used most by Hollywood stars and recommended by some of the best cosmetic dentists in the U.S.
Several reviews agree that professional tooth-whitening treatments performed by your dentist are, by far, the quickest and most successful way to brighten teeth. The treatments usually take between one-two hours at a supervised whitening center. Treatments such as BriteSmile and Zoom are two of the most used in Hollywood and can range from $300-$800 per treatment.
Over-the-counter whitening systems are much cheaper, and are effective if used as the directions suggest. You will also want to follow up with additional treatments every 3-6 months for a long lasting white smile. There are several options on the market, however, Crest White-strips Premium receives the highest reviews.
Whitening toothpastes do work to whiten teeth by using them for a long period of time as directed, however, you will not see immediate or dramatic whitening results with a toothpaste alone. If you are looking to try a toothpaste, remember to give it time and to use the toothpaste every time you brush. Here are few of the favs, Colgate Total with whitening, Ultra brite advanced whitening, and Sensodyne Pronamel for sensitive teeth.

Hollywood’s Get Glam Weekend Tips

Hollywood’s Get Glam for th
e Weekend Tips
Take a cue from Hollywood stars such as Eva Longoria Parker, Heidi Klum, and Katherine Heigl to looking sexy, hot, and put together for your weekend party, event, or sexy date.
Plan ahead- Stop waiting until the last minute to book grooming and maintenance appointments. No one wants to have unruly brows, uncolored roots in their hair, or unsightly toes with the new strapy shoes that you just purchased. Set aside 30 minutes to an hour every month to schedule all of your important appointments before your special events, parties, and dates. Also keep your appointments….don’t be someone who always cancels.
Have a Signature Scent- If you have one than you know what it is….it is a perfume that you wear when you are dressed up in a fancy dress or just hanging out in jeans or a t-shirt. Find a signature scent that you love and people associate you with. Stop by your fragrance department and try out a few until you find one that you love. Before investing in the bottle make sure to wear it for at least 6 hours to make sure that the scent stays with you and you like it.
Be Your Own Stylist- Take what you are wearing seriously. Pull together several outfits that you want to wear the day before. Try on the outfits to make sure they fit properly and determine which one that you want to wear. Next move to accessories and decide if you want to wear a necklace, pick out your shoes, and set aside the perfect earrings for the outfit. Even think about how you want your hair to look with the outfit. Don’t forget about a purse or clutch for all of your must need items too! This will allow for more time for you to get ready for your event, party, or date and leave you less stressed about what you are wearing.
Practice Your Posture- You have heard the saying “Beauty is Confidence”. Well nothing says confidence more than having good posture. Practice by “Standing with your feet 4-6 inches apart, then imagine a thread attached to the top of your head and someone is pulling it up ever so slightly”.
Glam up your Eyes or Lips- For sexy make-up for your event, party, or date. Choose to accentuate the eyes or lips but not both. For the eyes go for a smokey look in a deep purple, blue, or grey shade and then finish off with a simple shiny lip in a nude color. If you choose to make your lips pop go for a red, pink, or deep wine color and choose a more subtle look for the eyes in maybe a brown shade.
Stock up on Hairspray- The under-appreciated and versatile product guarantees great hair all day and night. After you have styled your hair, spray hair with hairspray and then leave it alone. If you touch hair before the product has dried it will sometimes leave the hair frizzy, it is better to spray and go.
Keep the Compact Close- No one likes to be shiny especially when the shine is on your face. Pack a powder compact in your purse or clutch for easy and fast touch-ups. When you feel that you are getting shiny just slip away into the ladies room and take a minute to powder.

Beauty Lesson in Confidence, Controversy Over Self Magazine’s Cover Girl Kelly Clarkson
Controversy is stirring over Self magazine’s September cover which isn’t even on newsstands yet and the use of Photoshop on it’s cover girl Kelly Clarkson.
Cover girl, Kelly Clarkson, looks gorgeous on the mag’s front page but it also appears that she has been airbrushed in the photo when compared to recent photographs that were taken in the same month of her on stage.
Self editors went head to head with Meredith Vieira on the Today Show defending their position on why the photo was retouched suggesting that they altered her appearance to inspire women to be their personal best.
Kelly Clarkson says she doesn’t care what people think of her weight and she did not ask for the photo to be retouched. I say that is the role model for the rest of us and more and more of you are agreeing saying that you want to see pictures of real people who are comfortable in their own skin.
This is certainly not the first time that there has been controversy over the use of Photoshop and I guarantee it won’t be the last. Count this as a lesson learned, the best beauty advice out there, have confidence in who you are. Rock the body that you have been given and don’t worry about what anyone else thinks. What do you think?
Is Broccoli the New Sunscreen?
June 3, 2009 by Brooke Griffin
Summer is finally here and to protect our skin from the sun’s damaging UV rays people across the U.S. will be loading on the sunscreen but could they benefit more from eating an additional serving of broccoli? Maybe, according to a study published by Paul Talaly M.D., professor of pharmacology, at The John Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. He and his team looked at the results of broccoli extract being applied topically to individuals. What they found is that the volunteers who had the application had a reduction in the degree of redness caused by UV radiation exposure of an average of 37 percent. Unlike sunscreen, which absorbs UV radiation and doesn’t allow it to penetrate the skin, the broccoli extract gets absorbed directly into the skin cells. It has also been shown to work up to 3 days after being applied. Note this results were not seen by eating additional broccoli only by applying the broccoli extract topically, please keep applying the sunscreen. But this is just another reason broccoli is a power food you should make a part of your daily nutrition plan. Here are few of the other health benefits broccoli can provide:
- Eating broccoli regularly can cut your risk of developing cataracts
- Reduce your risk of being a stroke victim
- Prevent Colon Cancer
- Broccoli can even help the body destroy breast cancer cells
